The Open Water SCUBA Diver course is an entry-level certification course designed to give you the necessary skills to safely conduct open water dives.  Some of the many skills you will learn include buoyancy, proper weighting, marine conservation, equipment assembly, proper dive planning, and maintenance.  The course covers all the basic knowledge about equipment, physiology and the marine environment while training students to perform basic skills underwater.  This course is the key to start exploring dive destinations around the globe or in your backyard. The minumum Age for Enrollment - 10 years old

There are three required portions to the course:

Step 1:Academic

The Academic portion of the Open Water Diver Course is completed either on-line or using a CD-Rom.

It is a self-study course where you read and review the material at your own pace and come to class to review the material with your instructor.  Typically takes about 10-12 hours of your own time to complete this portion.


Step 2: Class and Pool

The Confined Water (Pool) Skills are taught in our heated multi level SCUBA training pool that was constructed to provide the ultimate in SCUBA training.  You are in our Hilliard facility for this portion of the course and it takes approximately 14-16 hours to complete.

Our Pool (Confined water) classes are conveniently scheduled;

  • Weeknight Class
    Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday evenings for two weeks - total four evenings
    6:00pm - 9:30pm
    Classes starting EVERY week
  • Weekend Class
    Saturday & Sunday
    9:00am - 5:00pm
  • Private Class
    Planned around YOUR schedule
    Complete Flexibility

Step 3: Open Water Dives

Four dives are required on two different calendar days.  Certification dives can be completed here in Ohio (May-October), on one of our many store group trips, or via referral at a location of your choosing, worldwide.

Our Open Water Certification Dives are scheduled;

  • Weekends
    Saturday & Sunday - both days are required
    9:00am - 2:00pm
    Circleville Twin Quarries
    Open Water Weekends begins 1st Weekend in May and are scheduled every other weekend until the end of October
  • Private Certification Dives
    Two Calendar days required
    Planned around YOUR schedule
    Circleville Twin Quarries or other local quarry
    Complete Flexibility
